Seals and Crofts We May Never Pass This Way Again Lesson

Early on in my days of blogging, long before I kind of lost the plot as to what information technology was all supposed to exist about (that would be a nostalgic journey through the tracks of my years), I covered the soft stone classic I'd Really Love To See You lot Tonight by England Dan and John Ford Coley (link here). My last mail before I had a break for the summer featured Summertime Breeze past The Isley Brothers which has ever been a favourite of mine, but, whilst doing a fleck of research as to its provenance I made a wonderful discovery. The vocal was non indeed written by the Isley Brothers as I had always thought only by the writing duo Seals and Crofts, Jim Seals being the older brother of Dan Seals, or England Dan as he became known because of his bully dear for the Beatles.

Although from Texas, that nickname was given to him by big brother Jim later on he briefly affected an English (or was it Liverpudlian?) emphasis. And this is what my blog was always supposed to be about – Finding out the backstory to the songs and artists of my youth. There is so much more than information out at that place now (ok some might be a bit dubious) but back in the day, all we had was Jackie magazine and a few more worthy publications – We lived in beatific ignorance, which was perhaps a adept thing in light of a few revelations of late, but equally you may have guessed I am a bit of a rock & pop "facts and figures" aficionado, then for me, this dauntless new digital world is simply perfect.

And so, what follows on from Summer Cakewalk? Well by skillful fortune I heard a song on the car radio the other day past none other than Seals and Crofts and was immediately smitten by information technology – Similar piddling brother's output, the music of Jim Seals and his singing partner Darrell "Dash" Crofts, fitted nicely into the soft stone military camp which at present seems to take become a scrap of a derogatory term but when it comes to rock I have always preferred mine to be of the soft rather than the hard variety anyway (and my listening to be easy equally opposed to difficult). These genres and labels we requite music truly baffle me as at the end of the 24-hour interval there is music of groovy quality and music that really is a bit rubbish, merely at that place is also music that but gives lots of pleasance, to lots of people, and this song does that for me. The Carpenters whom I featured recently (link here) also came from the soft rock camp and the passage of time, and Karen's tragic expiry, seems to have erased any preconceptions many had well-nigh their output – When information technology comes to music of quality, it doesn't go much amend than The Carpenters.

We May Never Pass This Manner (Again) by Seals and Crofts:

The song Nosotros May Never Pass This Way (Once more), from 1973, didn't ever enter the Great britain Singles Chart but it did reach No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. I tin honestly say I don't remember ever having listened to Seals and Crofts earlier (neither can Mr WIAA) but theirs was very much the kind of music that was all pervasive during my teenage years. Originating in southern California, soft rock was a style that largely featured acoustic guitars and ho-hum-to-mid tempos – Simple, melodic songs with big, lush productions. I very much doubt if nosotros called it soft stone back and then only when listening to the radio from the early '70s onward much of what nosotros heard was past bands and artists such equally Anne Murray, John Denver, Linda Ronstadt, Rod Stewart, Carole Male monarch, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Toto, England Dan & John Ford Coley, the Eagles, Chicago, America and the reformed Fleetwood Mac whose "Rumours" was the acknowledged album of the decade. In the late '70s, prominent soft rock acts included Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald, Christopher Crossand Captain & Tennille. A lot of albums were brought in to school and exchanged amidst friends for the very naughty practice of home-taping – Skillful to know such illicit activity doesn't happen today!

Since we are featuring big blood brother Jim's song in this post, I can't exit little brother Dan out, so here is some other soft rock please, this time from the late '70s. Love Is The Answer was written by Todd Rundgren and was a striking for England Dan and John Ford Coley in 1979. Although I loved this soundtrack to my teenage years, nosotros weren't really awash with visuals in those days and YouTube was still a few decades away – This sounds really shallow merely I am quite glad now equally somehow these lush beloved-songs audio meliorate when you don't think of the moustachioed pair who sang them. My chamber walls at the fourth dimension may accept had an assortment of skillful-looking boys on them, merely when information technology simply came downward to the lyrics, who wouldn't want "a ticket to paradise"?

And then, "What's information technology all about?" – The lyrics to the featured song have really struck a cord with me. Ok, some of the lines make picayune sense and probably just sounded right for the tune, but the bones premise is that we only go one shot at life and at the moment I am definitely wearing as well many hats, so in society to sort my life out, one will take to go. Equally it turns out, getting rid of the "chapeau de bloggeur" seems not to be an option, then it will have to be one of the others. Interesting times.

Secondly, just as Kayleigh Kitson realised in Peter Kay's Automobile Share (link here), "nosotros may never pass this way again", so she came out and alleged her love for John, which was a very brave affair to exercise but had she not she might have regretted it for the rest of her life. I would have washed the same in her position and in my late twenties, a few "declarations" were made, only in case. Unfortunately, 30 years on, a couple of the recipients of such declarations take turned up in this new-fangled "smarter office" setup I accept going on at work. Fortunately we take all moved on and have families of our ain now, only there is still perchance a slight twinge of embarrassment every bit you bump into them whilst casually hydrating at the water cooler of a morning time – I simply hope that the passage of time, and loss of hair follicles (for them, not me), has blanked out the memory of it all!

Until next fourth dimension….

We May Never Pass This Fashion (Over again) Lyrics
(Vocal by Jim Seals/Dash Crofts)

Life, so they say, is just a game and we let it sideslip away.
Love, similar the Autumn sun, should be dyin' but it'south simply just begun.
Similar the twilight in the route upwards alee, they don't see just where we're goin'.
And all the secrets in the Universe, whisper in our ears

And all the years will come and become, take us upwardly, always up.
We may never pass this way once more. We may never laissez passer this way once again.
We may never laissez passer this manner again.
Dreams, so they say, are for the fools and they let 'em drift away.

Peace, like the silent dove, should be flyin' but it's only just begun.
Like Columbus in the olden days, nosotros must gather all our courage.
Sheet our ships out on the open sea. Bandage abroad our fears
And all the years will come and go, and have us up, ever up.

Nosotros may never pass this manner again. We may never pass this way once again.
We may never pass this fashion again.
So, I want to laugh while the laughin' is easy. I want to cry if it makes it worthwhile.
Nosotros may never pass this way again, that's why I want it with you.

'Cause, yous make me feel like I'one thousand more than a friend.
Like I'yard the journey and you lot're the journeying's finish.

We may never pass this style again, that'south why I want information technology with you, baby.
We may never laissez passer this style again. We may never pass this way over again.
We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way once more

Whenever I hear an former song on the radio, I am immediately transported back to those days - I know I'm not alone here and want to tape those memories for myself and for the people in them. 50 years ago the song "Alfie" was written by my favourite songwriting team Bacharach and David - The opening line to that song was "What'southward it all virtually?" and I'm hoping that past writing this blog, I might find the reply to that question.
